Zeus had Pandora created as an instrument of revenge against Prometheus who had given fire to man against Zeus's wishes. This most beautiful woman, made in the image of Aphrodite, was given a gift from all the gods--her name means "all gifted one"--and sent to earth to be the bride of Epimetheus, brother of Prometheus. Her wedding present was a golden jar into which, unbeknownst to her, were placed all the evils of the world which she innocently released. However, left in the bottom of the box which held the jar was one sprite. It's name was Hope.
